Premium River Grain Goat Leather
Grade & Tannage:
Each skin we offer is of the highest quality – Grade A. They undergo a pure vegetable tanning process, ensuring that no metal contaminants, including chrome, compromise their integrity.
Grain Authenticity:
Important : We are known for our honesty and true representation of leather according to the strictest standards. Though, our River Grain goat leather, is fully pigmented and embossed, it aligns with the EU standards(and commercial, misrepresentations for Full Grain) given that its grain was never buffed. However, it’s essential to distinguish between the EU’s interpretation (and commercial misrepresentations) and the classical definition. Rooted in our rich heritage from the renowned leather district of Boston, MA, our definition is grounded in over a century of tradition. Our classic, historical definition for full grain leather requires all hair removed, less than 5% of grain surface could have been altered/disfigured by any means – including, but not limited to embossing, plating, graining, glazing, boarding and either partially pigmentation (semi-aniline) or full pigment. Accordingly, we would not call River Grain Goat full grain, according to our traditions, in contrast to the EU which would call this full grain without hesitation
Finish & Tooling:
Our leather showcases a sophisticated pigmented finish. While it’s highly receptive to gold foiling, the pigmented nature means it’s not suitable for blind tooling.
Quality & Strength:
We prioritize selecting raw stock that features a fine grain and lightweight profile. This ensures the leather’s strength remains intact with minimal need for splitting or shaving. Typically, reducing a 1.0 mm leather down to 0.65 mm can halve its tear strength. However, our River Grain goat is meticulously pared down to 0.65 mm without any compromise in its robustness.
Applications:
Ideal for bookbinding and crafting small leather goods, this leather has garnered significant popularity for bible rebinds, thanks to its quality and affordability.
Customization:
Should you have a unique color in mind, we offer bespoke color creation. Kindly note that there’s a minimum requirement of 12 skins, with a delivery timeline of 3 weeks.
