Authentic Historical Craftsmanship: Dubbed “Historical”, this leather is a nod to age-old techniques. Bypassing plating or grain manipulation, the leather boasts a smooth, calf-like grain. This method, demanding only flawless raw stock, tends to amplify even minute grain flaws. We steer clear of mechanical plating or glazing, known to damage leather’s epidermis and shorten its life. Our SHG grain remains unaltered, and we select only lightweight, square skins for optimal cutting.
Complete Control From Start to Finish: We source our skins “in the hair”, allowing us comprehensive oversight from de-hairing to finishing. This ensures the longevity properties of the leather, rooted in thorough literature research. Distinctly, our skins aren’t from EI Goats, which are crust-exclusive, allowing us greater control over each stage.
Almost Calf, But Goat: Mimicking the finesse of calfskin, this goatskin is a bookbinders’ delight. Our unique selection process emphasizes fine grains. Skins undergo drum dying and a subtle pigment coat for consistent color. As always, our tannage is purely vegetable-based.

- Pricing: Per skin. Grade #1 skins are near-perfect, with no defects within 1 1/2? of an edge. Grade #2 may have defects preventing a full, rectangular cut, but all skins cater to a minimum pattern size of 11 x 17 inches or larger.
