For your convenience, skins are already pared to .65-.75 mm. This will save those who require this substance substantially on your purchase
We call this “Historical” because we use techniques in producing this leather that do not involve plating and/or grain manipulation to attain this smooth grain, which is almost calf-like. These production methods require flawless raw stock as virtually every grain flaw is exaggerated with our production techniques. History has shown that mechanical plating or glazing damages the epidermis of the leather, shortening its lifetime. The grain of the SHG is not enhanced by plating or glazing. Skins are specially picked to be lightweight AND very square for excellent cutting.
For some of our products, such as this one, we purchase the skins in the “hair”. We have control over the de-hairing process, tanning and finishing which all effect the literature researched longevity properties of the leather.
As our skins are purchased in the hair, they are not from EI Goats, which are only available in the crust. This gives us more control of all of the processes.
This goatskin is almost as smooth as calfskin and is very popular with bookbinders.
A special selection is made of fine-grained skins. The skins are drum dyed and treated with a very light pigment coat to give a uniform color. The tannage is 100% vegetable, of course.
This leather, like all of our products, has an unconditional satisfaction guarantee.
