    Description

    Premium River Grain Goat Leather

    Grade & Tannage:

Each skin we offer is of the highest quality – Grade A. They undergo a pure vegetable tanning process, ensuring that no metal contaminants, including chrome, compromise their integrity.

    Grain Authenticity:

Our River Grain goat leather, with its untouched, pristine grain, aligns with EU standards for Full Grain, given that its natural texture remains unbuffed. However, it’s essential to distinguish between the EU’s interpretation and the Siegel definition. Rooted in our rich heritage from the renowned leather district of Boston, MA, our definition is grounded in over a century of tradition.

    Finish & Tooling:

Our leather showcases a sophisticated pigmented finish. While it’s highly receptive to gold foiling, the pigmented nature means it’s not suitable for blind tooling.

    Quality & Strength:

We prioritize selecting raw stock that features a fine grain and lightweight profile. This ensures the leather’s strength remains intact with minimal need for splitting or shaving. Typically, reducing a 1.0 mm leather down to 0.65 mm can halve its tear strength. However, our River Grain goat is meticulously pared down to 0.65 mm without any compromise in its robustness.

    Applications:

Ideal for bookbinding and crafting small leather goods, this leather has garnered significant popularity for bible rebinds, thanks to its quality and affordability.

    Customization:

Should you have a unique color in mind, we offer bespoke color creation. Kindly note that there’s a minimum requirement of 12 skins, with a delivery timeline of 3 weeks.

Experience the blend of tradition, quality, and versatility with our River Grain goat leather.

This bright blue leather will be used to cover modern books. The edges may need to be pared...not clear yet ... depending on the boards used I may be able to avoid the paring.

This blue is stellar! I liked the first hide so much, I ordered a second one! It paired well with some natural Cotlin, and its clear, bright color picks up the blues in some beautiful Rossi sheets that I like to use. Steve's River Grain is a wonderful leather that pares easily, and is supple enough to work without fear of needing to overdo it.

A little more difficult to stamp than the the Roma Chagreen but has a fantastic feel when using to rebind bibles.

Siegel's river grain goatskin is second to none. Excellent, quality, thickness, color, softness yet strength for rebinding Bibles.
