River Grain Goat 0.65 mm

(3 customer reviews)

All skins are grade A, pure vegetable tannage, and no metal contaminants such as chrome.    River grain goat would be sold as Full Grain according to EU standards as the grain has not been buffed. The EU Standards are not the same as the Siegel definition which is the 100+-year-old definition from our origins, the leather district of Boston, MA. The leather is printed with a pigmented finish. The leather takes gold foil easily.  As there is a pigmented finish, it is not appropriate for blind tooling.

We select raw stock with a fine grain and lightweight. The strength/integrity of the leather is thus maintained with minimal splitting/shaving   (If one were to purchase 1.0 mm leather and skive/shave the leather to 0.65 mm, the tear strength is reduced by approximately 50%)  Our River Grain  goat is especially pared to .65 mm with NO loss in strength

The leather is appropriate for bookbinding and small leather goods. Very popular for bible rebinds. It is very economically priced.

This goatskin is high quality, with a beautiful feel and grain, and it looks and feels tough.

A little more difficult to stamp than the the Roma Chagreen but has a fantastic feel when using to rebind bibles.

Siegel's river grain goatskin is second to none. Excellent, quality, thickness, color, softness yet strength for rebinding Bibles.
