  1. Margie Haley

We rebind a lot of Bibles at Leonard’s, and we have been using Siegel’s English calfskin leather for many years, for everything from a miniature Tom Thumb Bible to a heavy oversized Bishop’s Bible in hardcover, to a great number of modern softcover Bibles for pastors and laymen, all of whose owners treasure them and show them off whenever they can. Our owner, Eric Haley, is one of those abovementioned pastors and though he could have his Bible redone at any time, in any leather in our inventory, he loves how soft the English calf felt in his hands over time — so he won’t have anything else.

We have used this leather as the basis for some of our historical styles because of its versality and the ease of tooling and dyeing it. And we almost always use it for restoration work on the large Victorian era Family Bibles.
