I do hand book binding for new and restored books. My preferred leather is the Smooth Historical Goat. It is a dream to work with and forgiving of my learning process. I have used about 6 skins so far.
My first leather binding project was with calf leather. The SHG is close to that, but does not require the extensive paring.
